GSA South Weekly Reminder 11-13-2020 

Dear gator parent/guardians,

Below are your reminders for the upcoming week.  To access previous reminders or forms please utilize the School Notification link.  If you have any questions, contact the main office at 314-669-9000 or email info@gsasouth.org.

  • Virtual Student Conferences & Early Dismissals will be on Thursday, November 19th and Friday, November 20th.  Conferences will be held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Thursday and 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Friday.  Information about signing up for conferences was sent by individual teachers.  There will be a 1:00 PM dismissal on each day.  If picking up by 1:00 PM is not possible, please make arrangements to access lessons virtually.    

  • Kindergarten Laptop Swaps will be available on Wednesday, November 18th from 9-11:30 am and from 1-3:30 pm. Students who are 5-days virtual learners are invited to bring their laptops and charging cords to swap out for a new touchscreen laptop.

  • No Live Teaching Wednesday On Wednesday, November 18th there will be no live classes to accommodate Kindergarten laptop swap and administration of assessments. Students will receive assignments in their learning platforms that they are expected to complete.

  • District Assessment The iReady assessment is administered multiple times a year. This assessment is not given to all students. Students who are in person will take the assessment when they are in person. We are asking that 5 day virtual students, who are required to take the assessment, come into the building to do so on Wednesday, November 18. We have two time slots available — one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You will receive a separate email with a link for you to sign up. If you do not receive an email, your child is not required to take the assessment. Classrooms will be limited to 6 students. All students must wear masks and complete the health screening sheet. 

  • Health Check Forms need to be completed each day students attend school in person.  To help drop off run more smoothly, please complete forms prior to arriving.  If you need additional forms please contact the main office.  You may also use the https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NfPCuLTPVvVJ538r_90sLMvhm8nXDATG/view link to print out a form.  

  • No School During Thanksgiving Break on Wednesday, November 25th through Friday, November 27th.  School will resume on Monday, November 30th.  Free breakfast and lunch meals will be available for pickup by request for Monday and Tuesday only.  If you are interested please use the link located in the Breakfast & Lunch Is Free section.

  • Safety During the Holidays is very important especially during the pandemic.  Please use the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qxn-vfF2WAE&feature=youtu.be YouTube link to watch a video from Dr. Echols, the Acting Director of Health for the City of St. Louis, for suggestions about how to stay safe.

  • New Gator Gear is available until Sunday, November 15th through the https://www.bonfire.com/2020-21-gsa-gator-gear/  link.  We have met the minimum requirement so anyone who orders now will be included in the first batch.  Students are allowed to wear school spirit shirts in place of their school uniform top and all orders support GSA South’s PTO initiatives.  If you have kiddos at other GSA campuses, the items come in colors for middle and high school too. Adult and kids sizes are also available.  

  • PTO Fall Fundraiser has been EXTENDED! You can now keep working to push your prize goal even higher through December 12th! PTO thanks everyone for your work and is confident that with a little push from everyone we can reach our goal.  We ask that you consider posting the information on your social media accounts as well.  You never know which long lost friend will place an order.   • Congratulations to our Great Gators of the Week.  We are so excited to recognize the students who excel at being Respectful, Responsible and Safe.  Any student who is recognized this week will have an email sent to the primary parent/guardian with a certificate and directions on how to submit a photo that will go on the school’s Facebook page.  There will also be a link that will provide an option to reserve a time to pick up a congratulatory gift from Mrs. Gilliam, the building principal.  Any student who is not able  to pick up their gift from the school will receive it once he/she returns.

  • Breakfast & Lunch Is Free for GSA students and community members ages 3-18.  Pickup will continue to be at GSA South on Mondays. If you have a GSA student and are interested in receiving a meal, make a request through the GSA Breakfast/Lunch Pickup link.  Your request needs to be logged by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 15th for pickup from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Monday, November 23rd.  Food will be provided for Monday and Tuesday only during the week of Thanksgiving.   • Send Words of Encouragement to GSA South staff who display moments that impress you throughout the year by completing a Staff of the Week Nomination Form.  Anyone recognized will receive special acknowledgement from Mrs. Gilliam, the building principal.  

  • Free Flu Shots are available throughout the community and GSA is encouraging all of our families to get one to not only protect yourself and others but to reduce the strain on hospitals and health care workers responding to the pandemic.  Please use the https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nM-TvEAOYbyAjeuVqUVBLDA0q_aDqWwe/view

  • Need Assistance with Virtual Learning?  A website has been created to help parents access in one spot answers to frequently asked questions, tutorials, even information about our breakfast/lunch program during virtual instruction.   http://gsavirtualhelp.weebly.com/

  • IT Related Concerns around Chromebook hardware can be directed to GSA South’s IT department by emailing ithelp@gsasouth.org or calling 314-441-5577 on Monday through Friday from 8-3.  If you are needing one-on-one assistance, please contact the front office to make an appointment.  Concerns around Google Classroom, Seesaw, etc. should be directed to the classroom teacher.
