On November 12, 2013, Gateway Science Academy celebrated its first Veteran’s Day with a bang! Starting the morning off with a teacher/veteran breakfast, Gateway Science Academy invited over thirty military members from Scott Air Force Base, Illinois into the school. After the breakfast, the students and military enjoyed a special posting of the American flag and a flag folding demonstration by the 126th Air Refueling Wing. In addition, Senior Master Sergeant Sandra Cornejo and A1C William Jewel guest spoke about their military experiences to the school. Once the assembly was over, military members visited the students and their teachers in the classrooms. This gave the military members a unique chance to speak with the students and for the students to ask questions. Gateway Science Academy South hopes to make this special event a tradition in future years!
