Hello gator families,
This has been a year that many of us will never forget. Never would I have guessed that we would have been forced to shut our doors in order to keep our little gators safe. I want to thank you for your patience and your support as we continue to develop and work through new policies and procedures that address this new norm that we are all living. I want you all to know that throughout virtual learning, it is my goal to hold onto the things that make our students and families feel seen and understood, hold onto the things that make GSA South so special and unique.
Although the summer was quite hectic with very little down time, I am excited that we are starting the year with each student having a Chromebook to use to not only receive the interactive, rigorous, standards based instruction our teachers are preparing but to use to connect with their peers and enjoy one another. I love the fact that our students will continue to be recognized and praised for their hard work through school based and classroom incentives. I am thrilled that our advisory program will be introduced to help students feel more supported in reaching their goals and help parents feel better connected in the absence of face to face contact. The details of these topics will be shared at our Virtual Open House. I know many of you have been waiting to hear about what virtual learning will look like this year. I encourage you to thoroughly read through this week’s Weekly Reminder to get more detailed information about assigned teachers, our Virtual Open House where classroom teachers will introduce themselves and further explain the virtual learning experience, Chromebook pickup which is also described below, how to complete beginning of the year paperwork which is now digital, and the breakfast and lunch program that will be offered through first quarter. If you have any questions please contact the main office.
If any of you know me, you know it pains me to not be able to see each smiling face enter the door followed by a high five or a hug. I will continue to adjust just as our students, staff and families are doing. I cannot wait to see each smiling face on August 24th, the first day of school.
With a smile on my face,
